Our cashmere throws are 90% merino wool, 10% cashmere, woven in our family's mill in Ukraine. The blend makes them the softest throws in our range. Each one measures 140 × 200 cm including 10 cm fringes, weighs about 655 g and costs £89.90, in herringbone, stripe or tartan designs.
It is a cashmere blend, and we say so plainly: one tenth cashmere for the feel, nine tenths merino for body and warmth. On our own five-point scale these cashmere and merino wool throws score 5 for softness and 4 for warmth. Delivery is free across the UK from our Coventry warehouse.
What does 10% cashmere add?
Hand feel and softness. Cashmere is the fine undercoat of the cashmere goat, and its fibres are finer than merino. Blended in, the cashmere makes the surface of the throw softer and smoother to the touch. It is the softest throw we make: 5/5 for softness on our scale, against 4/5 for our merino throws (80% merino wool, 20% nylon).
The merino does the rest. It makes up nine tenths of the fabric, gives the warmth, keeps the throw sturdy enough for everyday use on the sofa and keeps the price reasonable.
Cashmere blend or 100% cashmere?
A throw of 100% cashmere is softer still, but it costs considerably more and it is more delicate: the short, fine fibres bobble more easily where the throw gets the most wear, so it needs gentle handling. A blend of 90% merino wool and 10% cashmere brings some of that softness into a throw that stands up to everyday use. If you want pure cashmere, expect to pay for it; if you want a soft wool throw for the sofa at a sensible price, the blend is the practical choice.
Size and designs
Every cashmere-merino throw is 140 × 200 cm, fringes included: enough to share on a sofa, or to lay across the foot of a double bed. Choose from herringbone, stripes and tartan.
Care
The label says do not wash. Air the throw outdoors for a few hours, out of direct sun and rain, or have it dry cleaned (P). Light bobbles on well-used areas can be lifted off gently with a wool comb. How cashmere, merino and pure new wool compare in fineness, warmth and care is explained in our guide merino vs cashmere vs pure wool.
Frequently asked
How much cashmere is in your cashmere blanket?
10%. Our cashmere throws are 90% merino wool, 10% cashmere: the cashmere softens the feel, and the merino gives warmth and strength.
Is a cashmere blend throw worth it?
If softness matters most, yes: our 10% cashmere blend scores 5/5 for softness on our own scale, against 4/5 for our merino throws. If warmth matters more, our pure new wool throws score 5/5 for warmth and cost from £55.90, though they feel coarser.
Merino or cashmere: which is softer?
Cashmere is the finer fibre, so it feels softer, which is why our 10% cashmere blend is softer than our merino throws. The full comparison is in our guide merino vs cashmere vs pure wool.
How do you clean a cashmere and merino throw?
The label says do not wash: air it outdoors for a few hours, out of direct sun and rain, or have it dry cleaned (P). Lift off any bobbles gently with a wool comb.
What size is the merino cashmere blanket?
140 × 200 cm including 10 cm fringes, and it weighs about 655 g. It is 90% merino wool, 10% cashmere, big enough to share on the sofa or to lay across the foot of a double bed.
Is this a pure cashmere blanket?
No. It is a cashmere blanket of 90% wool (merino) and 10% cashmere; the blend keeps the price at £89.90 and makes it easier to live with every day. We do not sell 100% cashmere blankets.
