Under £35: a cotton-blend throw for everyday use
A cotton-blend throw suits the person whose sofa sees a lot of life: mugs of tea, toast crumbs, a dog that has claimed the good seat. It is 50% cotton, 30% polyester and 20% acrylic, and it can be hand washed at 30 °C, which makes it the easiest of our throws to keep fresh. At 140 × 200 cm with fringes, it is big enough to wrap up in, and at 940 g it has a pleasant weight on the lap.
It is less warm than wool (3/5 on our scale), so think of it for milder evenings, a student room or a second layer rather than for a house that is properly cold. Under £70: a merino throw for someone who feels the cold most
For someone who is properly cold most of the time, merino is the one to give. Our merino throws are 80% merino wool and 20% nylon: merino is a fine wool that feels soft rather than scratchy, and the nylon strengthens the weave and helps it keep its shape. They rate 4/5 for both warmth and softness on our scale and come in the widest choice of colours in our range, in three sizes:
- 130 × 170 cm, double-sided, 890 g: for an armchair, a reading corner or a chilly home office.
- 140 × 200 cm with fringes, 730 g: patterned with chevrons, diamonds, squares or stripes, for the sofa or the foot of a bed.
- 150 × 215 cm, double-sided, 1,450 g: the heaviest throw we make, for someone who likes to disappear under it, or for two people sharing a sofa.

Under £90: cashmere-merino for someone who loves soft things
Some people are always cold and also particular about what touches their skin. For them there is cashmere-merino: 90% merino wool and 10% cashmere, the softest throw in our range (5/5) and as warm as merino (4/5). It isn't a pure cashmere throw, and we would rather say so plainly. The cashmere makes the surface noticeably softer; the merino does most of the work. At 655 g it is also the lightest of our throws, easy to fold over a chair or take on a long car journey.

Small extras for someone who's always cold
If a throw is the main present, one of these makes a good stocking filler alongside it, or a small gift on its own:

How to wrap a throw, and when to order
